“Resting is an accomplishment. When I allow myself the rest I need, I am achieving the goal of living a balanced life.” – “Everyday Joy, 365 days of ohmygod life,” by Z Egloff and Melissa Phillippe, April 20 I’ve gotten more conscious striving to live a balanced life, and I appreciate hearing that someone else looks at resting as an accomplishment—I know it is for me! Since I work a full-time job Monday through Friday, I very intentionally look at my calendar on a monthly basis and schedule an entire Saturday off hibernating in my cocoon. The day is to do or not do whatever my heart desires. It usually starts with rest, i.e., sleeping in. The day might consist of a movie marathon, creating a collage or vision board, or anything else that strikes my fancy. It is a pressure-free day that does not include any “shoulds,” unlike the rest of the week when I am running around and fulfilling my responsibilities playing grown-up. However, I never miss my morning sabbath, my quiet time to focus on Spirit, seek inspiration, and nourish my soul. This Friday evening I thought I’d just select one of my other works of spiritual literature from the living room bookcase—some of which admittingly I’ve never read—and see what the message was for today. Here’s what I got: The Sunlit Way, April 15 “Know that your Source of joy is something changeless. Being Excited About Vacuuming!

After being engaged Monday through Friday in corporate work, even though it’s the weekend, I designated today as a personal work day. There’s been a lot of adult things needing to be done that I’ve been procrastinating about simply because I just haven’t felt like “adulting”! And, yet, now, at the end of this day of “adulting,” I feel peaceful and serene. In fact, I have felt that way throughout the day—on a mission, but neither hurried nor harried, and in joy. I was very productive: changing the three HVAC filters in my home; working on 2021 taxes (yes, I’ve already filed an extension 😊); making data entries in QuickBooks; writing tithe checks; cooking my weekly batch of kitchari; replying to emails; and, more. My philosophy is that whatever I do, I want to do it in joy, in peace. Now chores don’t always easily fit into that slot. However, when I set the intention and the time to work on them, I actually get enthusiastic about the activity and look forward to that time. Imagine being excited about vacuuming! Spirituality is Action

Spirituality is something done, not merely something believed or known or experienced.” – Mary McDermott Shideler “Spirituality is action.” – “In God’s Care*: Daily Meditations on Spirituality in Recovery,” April 6 *As We Understand God Ya know, it’s pretty easy to go sit on a mountain top and be alone, not having to deal with people. I’d guess it’s boring too. Life is about relationships, which makes it rich. It is when I am actively engaged with others—friends, family, work colleagues, et al—that my greatest challenges arise and I learn, and I realize my greatest joys too. Exercising my spirituality means that I get to see how much my God-like and God-given qualities are in play. In my interactions with others, am I being kind? Patient? Compassionate? Loving? Helpful? Those, of course, are just a few of the qualities of Spirit, but as you can see, they’re not easily evident until I am interacting, into action with others. Pass It On

I got into recovery seeking help with my eating disorder. That help came through in the form of the Twelve Steps, which included finding a Power greater than myself and being involved in the fellowship. Hence, I embarked—more like was thrust (happily)—onto my conscious spiritual journey. At that time, I had barely even heard the word ‘spirituality’ and surely did not see myself as holy nor expected my life to change in all areas except hopefully in the food department. Resentment is Deadly

I have a resentment. That is deadly for me. I don’t get them often anymore; perhaps that’s due to reduced interaction with people since COVID entered our lives two years ago 😊. However, I’d like to think that my consistent spiritual practices have kept me in good stead. I had volunteered to train Sally (name changed) for a task she was assigned to at her job. I don’t know her well, but she seemed enthusiastic and even grateful. We went ahead and set an appointment on a weekend day when I would be off from my own job. When the appointment day arrived, she never showed and never called me. I got concerned that perhaps she was ill, there was an emergency, or the like. I waited a couple days to see if she would contact me, and when she didn’t, I called her office. Someone else answered the phone and said Sally was there, couldn’t talk, and would call me back. When I didn’t hear back within a couple days, I called again; this time I left a voicemail. I never received a call back. I Am Filled with Peace

I continue sending the light out to the far reaches of the planet and the deeper inner reaches of each soul. Namasté. Now more than ever may the divinity, the wholeness in me and you respect and honor the divinity and wholeness in all.

Peace in These Times

When I read the headlines immediately following meditation this morning, I knew today’s topic would be something related to peace. It just had to be. I don’t usually blog about the international world out there, but Vladimir Putin’s invasion of the Ukraine was a blow to my soul, despite it not being a surprise. How ironic, I suppose, that yesterday’s blog post was about expecting good. Right now, that’s a challenge. The Russian president has taken an action not seen in about 80 years, since the days of Hitler and WWII, and hoped to not be seen again. I am sending thoughts of love and compassion to the Eastern European region of the world, and envisioning white light surrounding all the people. I am extending those energies out to the far reaches of the entire planet because everyone is impacted. And, I’m sending light out even to Putin. He is so very lost; he fails to realize that we are truly one. An attack on anyone is an attack on all. Bookending with Spirit

Thank You, Spirit, for a day of diversification—which You know I love!—and richness. My day at the job was productive and I got into the groove of a new project with clarity and sharpness. It felt good. Thank You for my work and personal interactions, keeping me connected to others, albeit briefly; still, a little connection with beings for me is better than none at all. I got a wee bit of fresh air, sunshine, and steps in when I made the brief walk to the mailbox. I did some cooking at dinner time, and accomplished financial administrative work, and then ordered yet more health supplements—but I’m keeping healthy during these crazy times, and I am so grateful. Yes, Spirit, it was a full day, starting out with my morning sabbath of meditation, Naam Yoga, spiritual literature, and journaling, and soon to close with writing out my gratitude list. I feel a sense of peace as I bookend the day communing with You. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You! Sweet dreams.
