At the Center

joyceskaye.com Posted on June 10, 2022 by JoyceJune 10, 2022

Writing this blog focused on spirituality is a daily practice for me, one I kept for 598 days during the years 2008 –2010, and one I committed to again at the start of 2022 for a number of reasons. My life in 2022 is way different than it was back when I made the commitment the first time. One of the big differences is that now I work a full-time job versus being a sole entrepreneur; that has made keeping the daily commitment challenging, but I’ve not missed a single day. Writing usually at night after a long work day doesn’t always yield as well-written a post as I’d like. However, the main purpose is to connect with Spirit, and in the process hopefully gain some insight or at least decide to contemplate an idea at some future time. However, this spiritual practice has also expanded my knowledge further about people, events, philosophies, music, and more. Due to my commitment, I’ve stretched myself to come up with a topic, to improve search engine optimization, to find interesting images, and to be more creative, resulting in me doing a lot of research bearing delightful fruits from that in and of itself. … Continue reading →

In the Gap

joyceskaye.com Posted on May 20, 2022 by JoyceMay 20, 2022

Today I am living in the gap. Yesterday I resigned from my remote contract position at a financial technical services company effective after close of business. Today I took the day off to attend to personal tasks and appointments needing to be done on a weekday. Monday I start my new remote contract position in the academic world at a university in the Pacific Northwest. I am in the gap between jobs, between income streaming in, yet knowing come Monday, I’m back in the flow of financial prosperity. Source is surely with me—I’m not in fear about losing a day’s pay and I feel peaceful. I’m also excited about the change. Often, when I’ve been between contracts, it’s because a contract ended unexpectedly. Then my job is job hunting, a full-time endeavor, that is unpaid. In turn, that means I’m living off savings (which these days I’m grateful to have some), taking away money for other expenditures or future retirement (if that is ever feasible for me). I am grateful that for the past couple years I have been in control of my job role destiny, having started looking for new opportunities before the current one I was in ended … Continue reading →

Prayer is…

joyceskaye.com Posted on May 16, 2022 by JoyceMay 16, 2022

Over the centuries many folks have expressed their ideas about prayer. When I first got into recovery, easing away from atheism and moving towards coming to believe, I learned “prayer is talking to God, meditation is listening to God.” Here are some other thoughts about prayer gleaned from today’s “In God’s Care*: Daily Meditations on Spirituality in Recovery,” *As We Understand God. Prayer is… … an attitude, an awareness of God’s presence … a feeling that we are not alone—ever … a thankfulness, a silent appreciation of and communion with our source … stepping back and letting go I cannot separate any of the aforementioned—they are all part of my attitude as I step into the evening to relax, being aware of Spirit’s presence and hence assured I am not alone, feeling grateful for my Higher Power, and surrendering the evening and everything else to Spirit.

Practicing the Presence of God

joyceskaye.com Posted on April 1, 2022 by JoyceApril 1, 2022

“Nearly every day most of us experience a few small, though troubling, inconveniences. Some days we suffer through a major setback and, on occasion, even a personal tragedy. When we trust that God is in our life, and we look for comfort and guidance every moment of every day, we are prepared for any upset, whether minor or grave. “Practicing the presence of God provides us with a refuge, even in the throes of turmoil. In time, as we make this a daily routine, we’ll seldom doubt God’s closeness or feel forsaken, even when all about us is dark. The darkness will give way to the light of hope in the mere moment it takes to remember God’s presence.” – “In God’s Care*: Daily Meditations on Spirituality in Recovery,” April 1 *As We Understand God I couldn’t help but think about my friend, Jennifer, and her soon-to-be 19 years old son, Kelton as I was reading the above passages. Earlier in the week Kelton experienced a brain hemorrhage, and at the time of this writing, the doctors still don’t have the situation under control so that they can perform surgery. They have induced a coma so that his brain can … Continue reading →

Love and Oneness

joyceskaye.com Posted on March 5, 2022 by JoyceMarch 5, 2022

In the second week of Putin’s invasion of the Ukraine, a couple of of today’s morning readings were once again about us being one and loving the different infinite expressions of Spirit manifested in individual people. The following quote is from the March 5, 2022 Daily Guide in “Science of Mind Magazine.” The author, Rev. Steph St. Amand, began with writing about the question we are asked as youngsters: “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Actor? Journalist? Zoologist? Rock star? The pressure of striving and achieving can be great and veer us off the path we were truly meant to follow. Here’s what she’d say now: “…when I grow up, I want to be happy. Living an authentic life… “The lofty, sacred purpose before each of us is to be present for the moment before us and shine a light on the illusion that we are separate from one another or separate from Sprit. Affirmation: “I listen to the God-voice inside me, cheering me on to my highest expression. I fulfill my noble purpose through loving acts and joyful thinking.” Ernest Holmes wrote about human relations in the March 5 entry in “365 Science of Mind: … Continue reading →

Help from Spirit

joyceskaye.com Posted on February 25, 2022 by JoyceFebruary 25, 2022

It amazes me how I can sometimes forget that Spirit is the ultimate Power and can help with anything. But, I have to ask for that help. Years ago, I was a very unhappy camper, not enjoying living in Santa Fe, NM. For most of my seven years living there, I wanted to relocate (again) and didn’t have the financial means to do so. When a friend visiting from NYC asked me how I enjoyed living in Santa Fe, as we walked around the lovely plaza downtown, I heard myself complaining yet again about what I disliked about living there. And, I was sooo tired of the complaining. Shortly thereafter I remembered to ask Spirit for help in relocating. The lightbulb had finally gone off! Duh. I had been trying (or not trying) to do it all by myself. Asking for help from Spirit, I was no longer alone (as if I’d ever really been) and I had the power of God consciously behind me. Here’s what I told Spirit: God, I really need Your help to get out of here. I’ll do anything that is required – even get a job! You know that I’ve said I’d never work … Continue reading →

I’m Easy!

joyceskaye.com Posted on February 6, 2022 by JoyceFebruary 6, 2022

I’m easy! It has been another great, joyous weekend, the second consecutive one. It’s pretty simple for me to understand why: I’ve been meaningfully engaged with people in person! What a concept during these continuing days of COVID. During both weekends I spent a chunk of time with spiritually like-minded folks, and we celebrated life through music, arts and crafts, inspirational talk, and meaningful conversation. We even got some laughter and a few quick hugs in too. The time was so much about connection. I felt connected to others, and through them, Spirit. And, Spirit is Love, what we all yearn for. At my spiritual center this weekend, I got to learn more about others as they shared openly about their lives, as did I. There was an exchange of energy, we gave of ourselves, of our love, to one another. When folks are authentic and speak from the heart, that allows for connection; I get filled up. In completing our “A Consciousness of Joy” class project, it was insightful, delightful, and inspirational witnessing the creativity and myriad of gifts my colleagues displayed. I’m grateful that that fun, joy, and so much more will continue as friendships kindled in that … Continue reading →

Every Second, With Every Breath

joyceskaye.com Posted on January 24, 2022 by JoyceFebruary 1, 2022

“God insists that we ask, not because He needs to know our situation, but because we need the spiritual discipline of asking.” – Catherine Marshall “I need to be in touch with my Creator every hour of the day.” – In God’s Care*: Daily Meditations on Spirituality in Recovery, January 24 *As We Understand God My last bit of time in bed this morning was filled with worry and anxiety. Somehow my mind had seized upon thinking about how I am not prepared for financial income as I progress into older age. I’ve always assumed I would be able to keep working as long as I needed to, never thinking about ageism in the corporate world, perhaps a decline in health, or any other possibility. It’s definitely something to address, but nothing that I want to have disturbing my sleep, let along my peace! Soon thereafter the alarm rang, and I was off to my meditation space, chanting and then sitting in the silence. I am so grateful that I really do believe in a Power greater than myself, a Power that is for Good, only wants the best and highest good for me, that is there to help me. That, coupled … Continue reading →

Love

joyceskaye.com Posted on February 14, 2010 by JoyceFebruary 26, 2022

There are all kinds of love, but the ultimate love is that of God. I am grateful for Spirit’s unconditional love, unlimited, unrestricted, always present. When I and the humans in my life fall asleep and falter in our loving capacity, I know that I can rely on the Source of all to heal me and wake me up once again. Attending a gratitude meeting yesterday, I was touched by other’s shares. Hearing others’ expressions of gratitude is always a great mechanism for opening up my heart. It is a way Spirit heals me and wakes me up once again to the love that I truly am. Yesterday was no exception. Today Rog and I created a love altar based on Vastu Shastra, the sacred Vedic science of architectural alignment that combines all the five elements of nature (earth, water, air, fire, space) to balance and remove obstructions to life-supporting energy in order to receive the support of nature to assist in unfolding one’s full potential. Through this exercise, I felt Spirit at work, opening my heart, waking me up again to that which is my true essence, love.
