Shimmying and Shaking

With the change in season and weather, I’ve been able to start walking more regularly lately. Even though I have to get up earlier than usual on a work day and already am not getting as much sleep as my body needs, some days I am so very eager to get outdoors and really get into power walking. I have this energy in me that I just need to get out and release. There’s a lot going on in my life and it’s stressful. It’s really all positive, but it’s still stressful nonetheless. Physical movement is helpful in calming me. So, I found it timely when settling into my morning sabbath after coming in from my walk, I read the following: “Taylor Swift was right. When you’re stressed out, the best thing you can do is Shake it off. Shimmy shimmy shake shake!“ “Moving my body moves everything… and I release pent-up anger. Tuesday is Chooseday

I found a website that was filled with quotes about Tuesday. So many of them were about work. Not only that, they were not very positive, and comparisons were made as to how close Tuesday is to the weekend and freedom (or not). What a sorry commentary about individuals’ ideas about work, but I understand. However, some quotes did produce a chuckle for me. “Tuesday is Monday’s ugly sister.” – Unknown “Tuesday is the day I actually start the week; Monday I just deal with the depression of the weekend ending.” – Unknown “There isn’t a Monday that would not cede its place to Tuesday.” – Anton Chekhov “Tuesday is a good day; you survived Monday. And tomorrow is Wednesday, half-way through your work week!” – Kate Summers And from the website Unique Teaching Resources, comes the image below about how the calendar looks after Tuesday! Live in Joy

“Life is not just something to be endured. It is to be lived in joy, in a fullness without limit.” – “Discover a Richer Life,” by Ernest Holmes, page 58 Ernest Holmes is the founder of the Science of Mind spiritual philosophy, part of the greater New Thought movement. It is not a religion, although he speaks much about God, for that is all there is. It is so uplifting to hear a positive conception of Spirit and way of life, and espouses us to live in joy. This is so unlike (in my limited knowledge and experience of) the Judeo-Christian religions. In those philosophies, fear of God, and judgement of self and others is taught; such a stance diminishes self-esteem and a sense of well-being, preventing one from being their authentic self and promoting a fearful disposition in life and one’s relationships. One can feel imprisoned, restricted, and surely it’s a challenge to be happy and joyous, and to truly thrive. Such a way of being in the world with self, others, and God is not very healthy emotionally, spiritually, mentally, and eventually physically. Why would I want to subscribe to such a belief system?! Divine Love

I “found” a new friend—after four years—the other night! Curious? Ask me. David is a poet. He gets inspired by the Divine and words just flow from his fingertips onto the keyboard. I resonate with what Spirit has poured through him and wanted to share, what seem like messages to me, with others. David has granted me permission to post his poem, “Divine Love,” here. Freedom and Joy

Two of today’s readings were about freedom and joy, so I contemplated on where they were showing up in my life. “There is a Power operating through me; a Presence, inspiring, guiding, and sustaining me. Upon this Power, I place my reliance. “I know the Creative Law of Good is infinite and has all power to accomplish. I know Its whole desire for me is freedom and joy. Therefore, I declare that this freedom and joy are mine today… I know freedom and joy cannot be separated from me…” – “365 Science of Mind: A Year of Daily Wisdom from Ernest Holmes,” May 22 Last week I resigned from my job in the financial technical services field and tomorrow I start my new one in higher education. When not a sole entrepreneur, most of my career has been in the financial services field as a technical writer, analyst, and trainer. However, I did work in academia, but it was as an adjunct instructor in the field of computer science and information technology.
